Description: |
* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam continues to be possible. * WHERE...YUKON RIVER EAGLE TO CIRCLE * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The Yukon River at Eagle broke up early Thursday morning. The breakup front that was stalled downstream of Eagle near the Tatonduk River, has started moving again. Water levels above the breakup front remain relatively low. The ice jam east of the Canadian Border, 6 miles upriver from the mouth of the Fortymile, is still in place and river levels are starting to rise in Dawson. With the breakup front again on the move there is a chance for minor to moderate flooding when it reaches Circle, which could be as early as Monday but may be slowed by additional ice jamming. - Http://www.weather.gov/aprfc - If you live near or along the Yukon River stay alert and be prepared to take action. |

Headline: | Hydrologic Outlook issued May 3 at 10:43PM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK |
Description: |
ESFAFC As of approximately 19:30 AKDT Saturday, McGrath ice started running. Water levels have risen but remain below the bank. Ice is very weak and disintegrating as it moves. McGrath has no flood concerns at this time. As of approximately 20:30 AKDT Saturday, Stony River has ice running past. Water levels have risen 3-4 ft and are expected to continue to rise. Residents are not expecting the water level to reach airstrip level. This ice run is more dense, with more water volume, a lot of wood, and running faster than Thursday night. This ice run is most likely ice from above Devils Elbow to near McGrath. Stony River has no flood concerns at this time. If runtime is similar to the Thursday ice run, then Sleetmute should see this ice by mid-to-late morning Sunday. The downstream flood potential remains low based on the very low water levels and a lack of in-place river ice anywhere above Aniak. At this time, the NWS urges residents in Stony River, Sleetmute, Red Devil, and Crooked Creek to be prepared for rising water levels and runs of ice through the evening into Monday morning. NWS will continue to reach out to local community members for observations and River Watch will fly the river as weather permits to assess river conditions between Bethel and upstream of Crooked Creek briefing communities along the way. To share any local observations, please email anchorage.weather@noaa.gov. |

Description: |
ESFAFG An ice jam above the mouth of the Fortymile River has remained in place since Thursday. With the cooler temperatures snowmelt contribution to the Yukon has not increased water levels at Dawson so this jam has been stable and will likely erode from the downstream side. In this scenario, Eagle and other locations along the Yukon that currently have open water can expect eventual ice runs accompanied by a significant rise in water levels as this jam releases and potentially adds to the current jam downstream of Calico Bluff. |
