Headline: Special Weather Statement issued September 11 at 7:13PM AKDT by NWS Juneau AK
Description: Forecast confidence is increasing of another wet front pushing
into the panhandle by early next week. Current forecast rainfall
amounts are around 2 to 4 inches for many locations Monday
through Wednesday, with locally higher amounts at the upper
elevations. Freezing levels will still be high, around 6000 ft,
but not as high as the previous mid week system. Due to this heavy
rainfall and elevated snow levels, in combination with already
saturated soils from previous rainfall, rises in area rivers and
streams are expected. Stay tuned for updates on this next system
through the weekend or visit weather.gov/juneau.

Description: Strong northwesterly winds up to 40 mph have developed across
Shelikof Strait. These winds are resuspending ash from the 1912
Katmai-Novarupta eruption. Communities on southern Kodiak Island,
including Karluk and Larsen Bay, may observe reduced visibility
through Friday morning as a result of the ash.

Those with respiratory ailments in these areas are encouraged to
avoid or reduce outdoor activity to avoid inhaling the ash through
late this evening. The winds will diminish Sunday morning, which
should allow the ash to settle out of the atmosphere.

Description: * WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 2 to 4 inches.

* WHERE...Denali Borough.

* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 7 AM AKDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult.
The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and
evening commutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will struggle to accumulate during the
day, as it will melt on contact initially. Most accumulations will
come tonight and Friday night. There is the potential for a
refreeze of snowmelt Friday night and Saturday night.

Description: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...the Yentna River near Lake Creek.

* WHEN...Until 1000 AM AKDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...At 20.5 feet, water begins to inundate several low-lying
cabins.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 252 PM AKDT, the YLKA2 river gauge indicated rises in
water levels from heavy rain across the advisory area. Water
levels at the Yentna River near Lake Creek are near bankfull.
Minor flooding in low lying areas is expected to begin late
Thursday evening.

- At 1:00 PM AKDT, Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain have fallen.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.
The river level is at Action Stage and is expected to reach
Minor Flood stage at 10 PM AKDT Thursday.

Forecast: A crest around 20.8 feet is expected late Friday
morning with an estimated crest time at 10 AM AKDT Friday.
The river will then begin to fall and is expected to go below
flood stage by Saturday morning.
